Curly Fries

"You could say that I’m like that lone curly fry in the box of regulars.”

- Jason Mraz, Too Much Food

Yes, I quoted Jason Mraz. Let’s just all agree to stop judging me right now. It’s gonna get worse before it gets better, folks.

But in all seriousness, come on – this is a great line.

That one curly fry is magical. It’s unexpected and awesome in comparison to its “regular” (i.e. boring) companions. You didn’t realize how much you wanted curly fries until you stumbled upon that one rouge bit of golden deliciousness.

So maybe I’m giving myself too much credit with this quote. I mean, a surprise curly fry is a lot to live up to. But the first time I heard that song, it was like someone just explained my whole life in one sentence.

No one who knows me will argue with what I’m about to say: I’m not normal. I never have been. And I spent more than a few years trying to straighten out the curl in my fry. Trying to fit in more and stand out less. Trying to be like everyone else around me.

And then one day I realized that being a curly fry is awesome. And just because there weren’t any other curly fries in my box, didn’t mean I was the only curly fry in the world. It didn’t even mean that the regular fries wouldn’t like a curly fry…because honestly, everyone feels like that lone curly fry once in a while.

It’s true, I’m not normal. And, god-willing, I never will be.

When something has been said well, have no scruples - take it and copy it!
- Antole France

That, in a nutshell, is the premise of what I'll be sharing here. Since I was a little girl, I've been drawn to quotes. To those one or two lines that give a perfect synopsis of a mood, a feeling - of life. I'm drawn to the honest brevity of it all.

But they aren't all deep and meaningful. Some are fun or silly or *gasp* cliche, but at the end of the day, they all meant something special to me at some point in time. I've always believed that someone could learn a lot about me just by reading the collection of quotes I've gathered through my lifetime and now I guess we'll see if that's true.
